| Building
codes are rules and regulations developed to create uniform
standards for building practices and building product performance.
By adhering to these standards, builders, contractors and home
owners are assured that construction projects are built to withstand
the rigors of harsh weather and everyday usage. Building inspectors
are construction experts that are hired by local authorities
to enforce these codes. They check the construction methods
and products used in every remodeling and new construction project
within a particular municipality for compliance with the local
building codes. |
 |
| Building
codes have been written in many forms and under many different
names governing local, state, national and even international
code bodies. In recent years, these governing bodies have attempted
to consolidate the many codes into a uniform code known as the
ICC (International Code Council®). |
 |
|
 |
| The
ICC designates a variety of rigorous tests for decking and railing
products. These controlled examinations are conducted by independent
laboratories and test a decking board for a variety of characteristics
including strength, water absorption and flexibility. Deck boards
that successfully pass all of the tests are listed by the ICC
and can be used in local municipalities that require strict
accordance with their standards. |

| All
Portico® decking boards are compliant with ICC codes and
will pass building inspections when used with compliant construction
methods. |
