Best Composite Decking Material for the Outdoors from Portico™ Decking and Railing

To produce the best composite decking materials on the market, Portico™ Decking and Railing has developed a unique blend of tested and proven ingredients. A composite wood product is basically a mix of wood flour and a polymer. The manufacturer of Portico has found that the best mixture is on composed of furniture quality maple wood flour encapsulated in strong 100 percent virgin high-density polyethylene.

Pine and oak as a wood flour has been shown to 'leach' tannins. This causes staining on the deck boards. Maple flour does not do that.

Recycled plastic from trash bags may be used in some composites but not in Portico. Waste plastics were found to be weaker and disturbed by UV and sometimes even breaking down after a while in the elements.

Portico is made from 100% virgin polymer to provide strength and encapsulated the wood flour for years of use.

Advantages of the Key Ingredients in Composite Decking Materials
Products manufactured with recycled wood/plastic lumber are more durable than conventional pressure treated lumber and contain no toxic chemicals. Composite deck boards made of a wood/plastic blend are generally more rigid than 100 percent recycled plastic lumber because the wood fibers act as reinforcement. Additionally, composite deck boards are able to resist moisture penetration and degradation from fungal rot as the plastic encapsulates and binds the wood together.

Not Completely Sure if You Want to Make the Switch from Wood to Composite Decking?
Are you generally happy with your wood deck except for the splintering, regular maintenance, warping, etc.? Then composite decking materials may prove beneficial in the construction of your new or replacement deck. Portico™ composite deck boards look just like a plank of wood in size and shape and are available in four wood colors including brown, gray, redwood, and cedar. Each board features a natural wood grain and a surface texture that significantly improves slip resistance.

You can work with composite deck boards just as you can with wood decking materials, by sawing and fitting the ends together. Cut the ends into any shape you wish, such as rounded, or you can use your router to give the composite decking a decorative appearance. In the first 10 to 12 weeks after installation, expect to see some color fade from the composite decking material. Please be aware that this is a natural process as the decking becomes acclimatized to the temperature and humidity.

With composite decking materials you get the look and feel of wood as well as the wearability and high performance of plastic. To get the best of both worlds, click here and find a local Portico™ dealer. Make the switch from wood to composite decking materials and for years to come, you'll be glad you did.
